Forty percent of Jakarta is already below the sea level, according to experts, the collapse of the city is due in part to excessive population growth and lack of basic infrastructure development, to a frenetic construction of hotels, apartments, offices and shopping centers, as well as the constant extraction of water from underground aquifers in a precarious way in order to remedy the lack of drinking water that half the population suffers.
